Mobile Friendly: Why Your Website Needs To Be That Way

We’ve spoken before on the blog about the importance of having a website for your church and/or ministry. We have even written a blog post about why you should have a page dedicated to your visitors with specific information on it. However, one thing we haven’t talked about in the past is why everyone needs a mobile-friendly website these days. This little detail is a part of the reason that we have used SquareSpace for all of our needs and tend to encourage new clients to do the same.

So, why are mobile-friendly websites important even for ministries?

1) Increased web searches on mobile devices

According to official Google statements, over 50% of all internet searches are made from mobile devices. Just let that sink in for a moment. Over half of all search queries are made from mobile devices.

If you’re anything like us, this can be mind-boggling at times. Most of our childhood took place in the 1990’s when bag phones and dial-up internet were the trends. Now, we have tiny devices in our pockets that not only make phone calls and send text messages, they also have apps and access to anything on the internet you can possibly imagine.

Bottom line: people are going to search online for anything that enters their mind. They are just as likely to search for a nearby church on their phone as they are on an actual computer, so you want your website to be compatible with those searches.

2) Google prioritizes mobile-friendly sites

This might seem like one of those business-type reasons that you should skip over as a ministry, but this is actually important to all. In this day and age, people move around all the time, and when they want to know anything, they Google it. If you are located near a military base or college campus, then this is especially important. You are housed in a high-traffic area where new people are constantly moving close to your ministry.

You want your church to show up on those inevitable internet searches. If your website is not mobile-friendly and someone searches for churches in their area, your church will be further down the list. It might not be a fact we love, but news about churches doesn’t always travel by word of mouth anymore.

3) It leaves a good impression

People can say whatever they want about the impact of design and functionality, but at the end of the day, it’s important. If your website is easy navigate on a mobile device and looks nice, then you are automatically assumed to be more reliable. I don’t pretend to understand all the workings of the human brain, but I do know that good design has a positive impact on us. So, if you want to have the appearance of being credible and reliable, make sure your website is mobile-friendly.

This is by no means an exhaustive list, but these are three big reasons why a mobile-friendly site should be on your radar. And, as always, If you are currently looking for help with your website, you can find out how we can help here.
